DIY bathroom renovation?

bathroom renovation
mommyme asked:

My hubby and I need a new bathroom. The estimate to have someone do it is incredible. We were hoping to tackle some of it ourselves. Is this possible for a newbie? I know I will have to have someone do a little electrical(new can lights) and move a toilet and install tub. But the demo, new framing, new sheetrock etc. Any help would be appreciated

Nothing in the area has sold in the last year & nothing is currently on the market….SO how do you determine the asking price of a house? This relates to another question I posted earlier. I’m looking at buying a home where I feel the seller has overstated the value by about 25k, mainly because they claim the house has 4 bedrooms when it only has 2. I’m not willing to consider rooms in the basement without closets as bedrooms.
I’ve put in an offer that’s very fair for a 2 bedroom home. This house has been on the market (and sitting empty) for quite some time now. A year ago, the asking price would have been fair, but not in today’s market.
How do I determine an offer price, and how did the seller even come up with the asking price to begin with?
I want to protect my investment, but the house needs about 50k in renovations, kitchen & bathrooms (1 bath isn’t even usable). I couldn’t sell the house at a profit in 10 years if I bought @ asking price + made improvements. HELP!

I live right outside of Philly and want to do some renovations…and eventually sell my place. Should I add a 3/4 bathroom or redo the 70’s style kitchen? Which will improve my resale value?

Adding a bathroom on a concrete slab?

bathroom renovation
SmartA$$ asked:

I would like to add a bathroom to my house. There is an area that was originally part of the garage, but has been converted to a storage room. It would be a great place for an additional bathroom but since it was originally part of the garage, the floor is concrete slab with no crawl space underneath.

Is it still possible to put a bathroom in this area without major renovations to remove the slab and put in a crawl space? I was thinking about building the area up 8-12 inches and installing the plumbing under the floor, but I’m not sure if that is even possible.

Is there anyway I can turn this area into a bathroom?

I saw pics of this house I am thinking of buying and there is an old toilet and old sink vanity (which is very small). I want to move the toilet 2ft to the left which will make more room for a larger, newer sink vanity. My qu is can you move a toilet that far from its current position or will plumbing interfer? Thanks.
