Bathroom renovation - how to schedule?

bathroom renovation
Mungbeans asked:

I am (with much trepidation) co-ordinating my own bathroom renovation. I will be using skilled tradesmen but I just need some tips on how to get everything scheduled so it goes smoothly.

I need a list of items I will need to consider, preparing the budget, tasks to tick off, when to start which item.

I have the style and materials picked out, just need to get the project management under control.
We are pretty set on what we want done, and it should be pretty straight-forward. We need to demolish and re-install:
a) shower - current one was leaking and is no longer in use. It will be replaced with a new shower unit (floor, walls, glass)
b) bath - being removed and a new one put in its place
c) vanity and cupboards - being ripped out and moved to another area.
d) The toilet is a separate room and all that needs doing there is re-tiling
e) Shower and bath fixtures will remain almost in the same place. Only plumbing that needs to be moved is the pipes for the vanity basin.

I have half tile and half sheet rock walls. I was thinking of carefully removing the tile and wall papering over the walls. Is this doable, so the wall paper is smooth?

Can I build my own garage?

Lisa M asked:

My husband and I have a garage on our property that needs to be torn down or fixed. One wall is significantly damaged (termites and water). The contractor who gave us the estimate suggested that we would be better off starting over. My question is: Is it realistic to think that if we had a contractor remove the old building and prepare the slab we could build our own garage without a contractor? We are looking at a two story, two car garage with an upstairs work area. It would need to have electric and plumbing. My husband and I both have minimal do it yourself experience, but we both have families who are more experienced and are willing to help. Would we be biting off more than we can chew?

A family member out of state got me a furnace thru his company at cost. I picked it up and now have it home. I had hot water radiators, convering to gas forced air heat and central air. I do not have any ductwork however have a old servants entrance staircase that I was going to use so walls, etc did not need broken out.

Is this something we can do on our own, we have remodeled many other things, and done plumbing and electrical. I just cant find anything on ductwork.

My Dad is a plumber, but he lives 5 hours away so he isn’t much help!
I want to change the taps and tap handles in my kitchen and in my bathroom to nicer more modern ones. Is it possible to this myself with my boyfriends help, or would it be wise for us to get a plumber to do it.
I am happy to attempt it, as long as it is not a hugely high level of difficulty. Our place is only about 10 years old if that makes any difference to the type of plumbing and taps we have.

I’m looking to do a complete renovation including redoing the electrical, plumbing, and moving around walls. I want to do all of the work myself with help from a few friends and am trying to figure out if there are any rules regarding what I can and cannot do. Thanks

If you hired a plumber to change your whole set of shower knobs (where you turn on the shower) including all the supplies that the plumber buys for you…what is a reasonable price to pay the plumber for service and supplies?

And would you have hired a plumber to change shower knobs and the whole set or done it yourself?

When this happens, what do you do?
