bathroom renovation
abebopmana asked:

I’m in the process of doing bathroom renovations, and need a proper fan to get rid of the chemical odors. However, after the fan’s run for a bit, the room starts to smell strange, like rust. Is there a way to clean or replace the fan easily? (I’m stupid when it comes to this stuff)

i gave him a quote at $500 to take out tub and put new one in but the old tub was a big cast iron tub that was a pain to get out,i had to take out a wall at end of tub ,then when the tub was out i noticed a probly with the 3 inch copper vent pipe had holes all through itso i fixed that all the way from the roof to the bottom floor with plumber flashing on roof the whole nine yards, then they wanted one of those modern day fixtures for the tap set in the tub so i had to do a bunch of plumbing to set it up for the new set of taps,i also installed 2 shutoffs under the tub, also had to rip out all old copper plumbing and replace with new abs pipe ,installed 3 sideboard tub inserts to go around the walls, framed a wall to close in the tub on the bottom cuz it had no sides then framed the back wall for the panel to go on and drywalled it all.primed and painted then caulked all around tub to finished.
it took me 4 more days to finish the extras what do i charge? they bought all materials.
nothing was signed it was just an agreement that i would do the tub for $500 anything else would be extra ,i just want something fair for the both of us and it seems like fair to them is crap for me,its my friends parents house

Can I use Drano if I have Septic?

Please experts answer. Last time I got all kinds of dumb answers.
Senerio: I am on a septic tank. The wall drain of the washer is spurting out water on high pressure spin cycle????
I have tried a long hanger , but it won’t reach anything. My house sits up very high on foundation.
I cannot see where the pipe goes under the house ( I assume). I am a female, so I know nothing about drains and quite frankly I have no desire to dimantle anything because I am clueless as to how to do it. My simple question is:
Should I try drano before calling a plumber to help save money. ( single mom here).
Like I said - please don’t answer me with the stupid crap of ” no excuse not to be able to do it yourself” My speciality is medicine, not plumbing. thanks.
** Dismantle, sorry.

Tankless hot water heater?

TIMOTHY H asked:

Has anyone here switched from regular electric water heater to the tankless hot water heater. If you have please answer if you could.
How much difference did it make on your elec. bill?
Were you able to install yourself ( I’m pretty skilled in electrical and plumbing, I’ve done alot of remodeling).
Have you had any regrets since you changed?
Is there a brand that I should stay away from?
Any other input is also appreciated. Thanks a million.

Can mold actually grow INSIDE of your water pipes? If that were true, it would mean that anytime you used water, to wash anything at all or even to take a shower, you’d be getting moldy residue/spores all over yourself and everything you wash.

It would kind of defeat the purpose of ever washing anything.

Although come to think of it, it would also mean that everytime you drank the water, you’d get sick from the mold. So yeah, I can’t say I buy into the hype.

We just purchased a home and want to replace one of the bath tubs. It is rusty around the drain, chipped in a few places and just generally filthy. It’s a basic bathtub and we were planning on going to Home Depot and just buying a new, basic model tub. There is nothing wrong with the tile around the tub (it actually looks new) and the plumbing works fine. My question is, can we do this on our own (we have little to no handyman skills!) or do we need to hire someone. Does Home Depot install them with the purchase? How much does that cost? Or, is it cheaper to refinish the tub through a company like Rebath? Can you buy the inserts at Home Depot and do those yourself? I couldn’t find them online. Thanks for any tips and info!

hammering pipes?

armadilka asked:

I have a 10 yr old townhouse and every time I turn the water on, there’s this nocking noise coming out of one spot behind the wall. I’m guessing it’s an air pocket in plumbing or something. It sure goes away after a while, but I ‘d like to get rid of it. Is there a way to fix it all by yourself? What should I do?

It is so loud!! Is there any way to fix it yourself or does it require a plumber? I’d like to avoid a $65 house visit & it be nothing, know what I mean?
I don’t have any radiators & it is a groaning sound, not banging. I will probably end up calling a plumber!

Shower pressure?

Teetana asked:

Is there any do-it-yourself way to make your shower pressure more intense or is it just something that is in the overall plumbing?
Ryan you are sick, but I like it!

I have an almost new house built on a cement slab with no exposed pipes outside. I am nearly positive the water service comes into the house to the kitchen first, then to the bathrooms. Yesterday, after working normally a couple hours before, the water pressure in the kitchen dropped to almost nothing! The bathrooms seem to be working fine, at least not easily noticed lower pressure. I have taken the faucet filter off and tried the faucet with nothing on it, and there is not enough pressure. How do I figure out what is going on?
